German photographer Claudia Fährenkemper’s powerful black and white photomicrographs are a contemporary expression of the centuries-old human need to know what lies beneath the surface of things.
Taken with a scanning electron microscope, her photographs of insects, crystals and planktons provide a sensual encounter with the microcosm and its morphology that lead to a renewed understanding of reality.
