Welcome to the Ciel Variable Educational Section for CÉGEP and university professors. On this site, you will be able to explore various pedagogical tools based on the Ciel Variable archives.

The pedagogical tools include both group and individual assignments. They encourage different kinds of learning, from researching texts to examining images, to written and oral expression. The suggested activities follow the example provided by Quebec’s reform of secondary school education, which encourages curiosity and questioning.

The pedagogical tools are constructed from Ciel Variable’s considerable archives, which include over 1,000 texts and 4,000 images. The archival collection has been divided into three main themes (which, in turn, have been divided into a number of sub-themes).

These themes, which form the foundation of most of the pedagogical tools, provide study areas that will interest a wide variety of students at both the CÉGEP and university levels.  The three themes include Environment and Landscape, Self and Identity and Image and Experimentation.

The goals and intentions of this project are for students to:

  • have concrete experiences;
  • learn how to observe and reflect affectively;
  • understand abstract ideas and form critical opinions;
  • express themselves clearly in both written and oral forms;
  • work productively in groups and individually.

The pedagogical tools are organized as follows:

A. Individual Projects

1. Resarch Papers

2. Fieldwork

3. Journal Writing

4. Presentations

B. Group Projects

1. Group Dicussions

2. Group Debates

3. Group Essays

4. Group Presentations

Please note that the activities listed here can be used as they are, or modified to best suit the level and the needs of the students.  Professors are welcome to adjust the activities as they see fit.
